Draft Dodger's MLB 2005 Facepack

Here is my MLB Facepack for OOTP5 and OOTP6. OOTP5 and 6 can use two formats for player photos - jpgs and bmps. There are three places in the game where player photos will appear - the player editor screen, the player's html report, and on the field in the pbp screen during a game. A bitmap (bmp) photo will appear on all 3 of those places, a jpeg (jpg) will only appear on the player html report screen (if both types of a particular photo is available, the game will use jpgs on this screen instead of bmps). So, with that information in mind, I've created a set with 2 phots for each player - an action photo in bmp format to appear in the editor and pbp screens, and a posed photo for the player's html screen. All are in the proper size (90x135 px) and naming convention (firstname_lastname) for the game to use. Also, I've converted those photos into 65x90 for PureSimmers
examples:

Who is Included?

Basically, the sets based on Opening Day rosters are intended to include all players invited to a spring training camp - either on a 40-Man roster or a Non-Roster Invite. That's usually about 1,800 players, and most will be in the sets. In 2004 I also released a set based on each team's 40-Man Roster after September 1st.

Action Photos (bmp)

Action photos are intended to capture the player on the field, as opposed to in a photographer's studio. I spend a great deal of time with the action sets - first from finding a suitable picture from about 5 regular sources, and then cropping each photo to the required size. Needless to say, this is an extremely time consuming process - I estimate that over 100 hours is spent creating each action set.
Posed Photos (jpg)

These are all mugshots from MLBs website. Some teams are of better quality than others. For End of Season sets, traded players will often be photoshopped into their new uniform - this editing wasn't done by me, although it is generally very tough to tell that it's been done.
Photo Sources

Please understand that I own the copyrights on NONE of these photos. All I have done is collected, cropped, and named them for you to be able to use in OOTP. All of the posed photos came from MLB's website. The action photos came from a large variety of sources. Many come from MLB's website. I used Google Image Search and AllTheWeb's image search for each player. I scoured fan sites (some terrific ones exist for the Angels, Astros, Braves and Brewers), minor league team sites, and really just about any site with photos on it I could find. I focus on having each photo be both interesting in terms of composition, as well as being of high quality (no pixelation or blurriness). I also like to make sure that each team has a number of different types of shots, and try to change player's photos as often as possible.

Naming Conventions

In general, these photos will work with all rosters sets based on real MLB players. However, some players may be known by two different names (Dave/David, Mike/Michael, etc). In any case of ambiguity to name/nickname, I went with the name used on MLB's site. In cases where two players exist with the same name, I usually will add a middle initial to one (or both) players to elminate the confusion. This might cause a conflict with some roster sets if different naming conventions are used. Included in the 2005 set is a textfile listing how I handled specific duplicate names.
Thanks To

Special thanks to the following OOTP board members who contributed photos or other assistance: Jeff Olsen, kingcharlesxii, LivnLegend, remangiii, Sporr, Tiger Fan and Treches. (hope I didn't miss anyone there - I'm sorry if I did).
The Files

There are two types of sets (posed and action) and each set is included in either bmp or jpg format. In the past, I combined posed and action together into one big download, but I've had to stop that practice mostly due to space constraints. If you want the two types of photos (action and posed) to appear in your game, you'll have to download them seperately now.

All of these files are self-extracting executables (.exe) - after downloading, to install simply double click the file and choose the "PHOTOS" directory of the league you want to use the photos with.

All 2004 sets (both Opening Day and End of Season) include 36 first-round picks from the June Amateur Draft.

Any questions, please me, or drop me a line at the OOTP Development Forums If you want to host these files on your own site, please drop me a line first.

Donations

I am providing a link for paypal donations for those who wish to donate for the time spent on this project. I certainly am not requiring a donation at all to download the photoset, but the buttons are there for those who wish to do so.
